Momos are a traditional Tibetan delicacy that has gained popularity all over the world (they are not Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.). They can be eaten as a snack or a full meal and are essentially steamed dumplings filled with meat or veggies. You can attempt the following easy recipe to make momos at home:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of general-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 pound ground chicken or beef (or substitute with chopped vegetables for a vegetarian version)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and water until you have a smooth and elastic dough. Allow the dough to rest for 30 minutes, covered.
  2. Make the filling: In a separate bowl, combine the ground meat (or vegetables), onion, garlic, ginger, cilantro, vegetable oil, salt, and pepper.
  3. Roll out the dough: Divide the dough into small balls and roll each one out into a thin circle with a rolling pin after it has rested. The circles should have a diameter of 3–4 inches.
  4. Fill the momos: Fill each circle with approximately 1–2 teaspoons of the filling. Pinch the circle’s edges together to form a sealed dumpling.
  5. Bake the momos: Preheat your oven to 190.5°C (375°F). Bake the momos for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown and fully cooked, on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Serve hot: Remove the momos from the oven and serve immediately with your preferred dipping sauce. Enjoy!

Baking momos at home is a fun and simple way to enjoy this delicious dish. Following these simple steps will result in a batch of perfectly baked momos that will impress your friends and family. Try it and enjoy this delectable Tibetan treat!
